On November 24, Ambassador Yu Dunhai was invited to attend the gala dinner held by the Malta-China Friendship Society to celebrate the 51st anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Malta and delivered a speech. Dr Jo Etienne Abela, Minister for Active Ageing of Malta, Ms Katya De Giovanni, Member of Parliament, Mr Reno Calleja, President of Malta-China Friendship Society and other guests attended the event.

Ambassador Yu mentioned in his speech that since the establishment of diplomatic relations 51 years ago, no matter how the international situation changes, China-Malta relations have been developing in a sound and steady manner and have set a good example of relations between countries of different sizes, social systems, histories and cultures. The two sides have forged a profound friendship through helping each other over difficult times and achieved mutual benefit and win-win results through practical cooperation. Looking into the future, China is ready to work with Malta to follow the spirit of the phone conversation between President Xi Jinping and President George Vella, consolidate political mutual trust, deepen practical cooperation, promote people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and push China-Malta relations to a higher level.

Maltese guests said that the establishment of diplomatic relations between Malta and China demonstrated the foresight and sagacity of the elder generation leaders of the two countries. Over the past 51 years, Malta-China relations have developed healthily and steadily, cooperation between the two sides has yielded fruitful results, and the friendship is deeply rooted in the hearts of the two peoples. They wish the relations between the two countries a brighter future.
