On 17 August 2023, H.E. Ambassador Yu Dunhai met with MEP Alex Agius Saliba.

Ambassador Yu said that China and Malta have enjoyed long-term friendship. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties 51 years ago, the two countries have always respected each other and treated each other as equals, setting an example of relations between countries different in size, social system, history and culture. China is ready to deepen exchanges and cooperation with Malta to seek common development.

Ambassador Yu said that China supports the EU's strategic autonomy and supports a united and prosperous Europe. There is no fundamental conflict of interests between China and the EU, and common interests far outweigh differences. China is ready to strengthen dialogue and cooperation with the EU to jointly address global challenges such as climate change and economic recovery and oppose "decoupling".

Mr Agius Saliba spoke positively of Malta-China relations. He expects Europe and China to strengthen exchanges and dialogues in various fields, enhance mutual understanding and promote practical cooperation.
