The 18th press briefing of SCIO on Sichuan Earthquake

Beijing, May 28, 2008--The 18th press conference on " the progress of infrastructure restoration in quake-hit areas and supply of emergent goods" was held at 4 p.m., Wednesday by the State Council Information Office.


According to the Ministry of Civil Affairs, as of Wednesday noon,  the death toll in China's major earthquake increased to 68109. 364552 people were injured and 19851 missed in the 8.0-magnitude quake that jolted southwestern Sichuan Province on May 12. 15006341 people were relocated. Totally, 45612765 people were affected by the strong earthquake.


As of Wednesday noon, donations from home and abroad to China's quake-hit regions had reached 34.787 billion yuan, and so far, 9.781 billion yuan had been forwarded to the earthquake-affected areas.601900 tents were delievered to the earthquake-affected areas.

From Tuesday noon to Wednesday noon, 3 aftershocks measuring between 4.0 to 4.9 on the Richter scale had been monitored, 2 aftershock measuring between 5.0 to 5.9 on the Richter scale had been monitored, 238 aftershocks below 3.9 on the Richter scale had been monitored, according to the China Seismological Bureau.

As of Wednesday noon, 85722 people injured in the quake were hospitalized, 55514 have left hospitals, 15394 were still in hospitals, and 6928 people were delivered to other provincesaccording to the Ministry of Health.


As of 2 p.m. Wednesday ,19.557 bil yuan earmarked for disaster relief was allocated by governments at all levels, among which 15.385 bil yuan was from the central government and 4.172 bil yuan was from the local governments, according to the Ministry of Finance.
