On 9th May 2007, on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary from the Treaty of Rome, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to Malta, H.E. Chai Xi attended a commemorative ceremony co-organized by the Valletta Local Council and the European Parliament, Valletta Office under the distinguished patronage of the Hon. Lawrence Gonzi, Prime Minister of Malta at the Lower Barrakka Gardens, Valletta. The Hon. Lawrence Gonzi, Prime Minister, unveiled a commenorative plaque to mark the 50th aniversary from the Treaty of Rome.

On the same day, Ambassador Chai Xi also attended the first Europe Day Lecture by the Hon. Michael Frendo, Minister of Foreign Affairs co-organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Forum Malta fl-Ewropa and the European Commission Representation Office at the Westin Dragonara Resort. The Lecture was entitled "Can the EU survive another 50 years?".
